Bucs' boys, girls runners finish with 6-1 records in O-K Red

Both Grand Haven's boys and girls cross country teams closed out their O-K Red Conference seasons with 6-1 records following their wins over Jenison and East Kentwood on Wednesday at Grand Haven High School. The Bucs' girls lone loss came on Sept. 14 against Hudsonville, but head coach Greg Russick still believes his team is ready to defend its Division 1 championship. On Wednesday, Grand Haven easily outdistanced Jenison, 18-45, and East Kentwood, 18-44.

“This is a great team, perhaps the best I have ever coached,” he said. “It will be exciting to see the mark this 2011 team makes for itself.”

The Bucs had five of their top eight runners record season-best times. Sophomore Claire Borchers led from start to finish and crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 58 seconds. Roxy Glasser was in the runner-up position, crossing the finish line in a lifetime best of 19:14.
