Volleyball roundup: WMC falls in quarterfinals

Western Michigan Christian's volleyball team lost in the quarterfinals of the Muskegon City Tournament on Saturday.

The Warriors opened pool play with a split against North Muskegon, then scored wins over Montague and Holton.

WMC and North Muskegon met again in the quarterfinals, with the Norsemen coming away with a 25-11, 25-23 win.

Rachel Bruinsma had 30 digs, 10 blocks and 43 kills for the Warriors, while Julie Merz had 74 assists, five aces, 25 points, 15 digs and five blocks.

Elyse Ray contributed 22 kills, five blocks, four aces and 21 points, and Vanessa Eekhoff added 14 kills, eight aces and 23 points.


Grand Haven scored wins over Grandville, Holland, Whitehall and East Kentwood and lost to Jenison at Saturday’s Grand Haven Tournament. Paige VanOordt had 19 kills and 10 blocks for the Bucs, while Veronica Booth and Bailey TeBeau each had 13 kills. Amy Kober added 10 blocks and 10 kills. Rachel VanZytveld had 58 digs, and Jenny VanTol 55 digs. VanTol and Haley Bethune each had 22 service points.
