Now, the winner of the contest will have some hardware to go along with those bragging rights.

The Spring Lake Rotary Club has established a traveling trophy for the annual rivalry showdown between the Lakers and Trojans. A committee of students from both schools is being formed to design and name what is tentatively called the “County Line Trophy.”

Gary Gerlach, president of the Fruitport and Spring Lake Orchard Markets, as well as a Rotarian, will cover the cost of the trophy.

The Rotary Club has also designated the game as an annual fundraiser for charity. The players on each team will select a charity of their choice and a Rotary fundraiser prior to the game will generate proceeds to be divided between each school’s chosen charities.
