The top three finishers all represented the O-K Red Conferene, as Hudsonville won the title, followed by runner-up Rockford. Grand Haven coach Greg Russick said this was, by far, the toughest regional in the state.
“Four teams in this regional are ranked in the top 10 in the state,” said Russick. “Rockford’s fourth, Hudsonville’s fifth, Grand Haven’s seventh and Grandville’s eighth.”
Only the top three teams from regional competition advance to the state finals.
Russick said the Bucs led nearly the entire race, but gave up two places in the last 30 meters.
“These two places caused a four-point swing in the scoring,” Russick said.
But the Bucs still had enough strong performances to earn a spot in the top three, including a season-best time of 18 minutes, 32 seconds from sophomore Claire Borchers, which was good for fourth. Roxy Glasser also ran a liftetime best of 18:54 to place eighth.
