Fruitport volleyball cruises into regional finals

Saginaw Swan Valley proved to be only a minor bump in the road as the Fruitport varsity volleyball team continues its march toward defending its Class B state championship.

The Trojans overpowered Swan Valley in Tuesday’s regional semifinal round at Central Montcalm, 25-16, 25-20, 25-19.

With the win, Fruitport advances to Thursday’s regional championship game against Lakes Eight Conference rival Grant. The Trojans have defeated Grant several times already this fall.

Senior setter Lauren Hazekamp was outstanding in directing the Trojans’ offense as she finished with 43 assists.
