Volleyball regional finals: GH bows out, Fruitport moves on

Grand Haven's varsity volleyball team saw its season end at the hands of rival Rockford in the Class A regional finals on Thursday at Jenison High School.

Rockford, the No. 2-ranked team in ihe state, prevailed by a 25-20, 25-18, 25-16 final. The Rams advance to Tuesday's quarterfinal against Gull Lake.

In the Class B regional final at Central Montcalm, Fruitport took another step closer in defending its state championship from a year ago, as it polished off Lakes Eight Conference rival Grant in a three-game sweep, 25-11, 27-25, 25-20.

The Trojans move on to Tuesday's quarterfinal in Houghton Lake, where they'll face Cadillac for the third-straight season. The Trojans were ousted by the Vikings in the quarterfinals two years ago, but Fruitport gained revenge last year.
