Years of gymnastics now helping SL diver Francisco

The aerial artestry that is so prominent in diving came natural for Spring Lake sophomore Wilhelmina Francisco.

“For 10 years I competed in gymnastics,” Francisco said, who will compete in the Division 3 diving regionals tonight at East Grand Rapids High School. “I started when I was about 4. I used to live in Grand Blanc and I trained at (the Academy of Gymnastics and Arts).”

The petite 5-foot-3 Francisco will be one of four Lakers competing at the regional, which will also include Makayla Boyink, Paige Rubleski and Shelby Munch. It’s the first time under veteran head coach Barb Brackett that her entire team has qualified for regionals.

“That shows we’ve all worked really hard together this season and we’ve improved a lot,” Francisco said.
