For her strong season of competition, she was recognized in Midland on Nov. 5.

Each year, Michigan figure skaters participate in a series of 16 competitions, held at clubs and arenas throughout the state. Skaters accumulate points throughout the season, based on placement in each event entered. The series award ceremony was held at the end of the final competition, “Skate Midland 2011.”

The season winners received red-carpet style treatment, complete with medals and flowers.

Several other skaters from the Muskegon Lakeshore Figure Skating Club also performed well in Midland, bringing home medals:

Spring Lake’s Aubrey Cohoon, 7, took first-place in Basic 3 Elements and first in Basic 3 Program. France was third in Basic 2 Elements and fifth in the Basic 2 Program. Spring Lake’s Emily Kurtz, 7, took second in Limited Beginner Compulsory and second in Limited Beginner Free Skate. Spring Lake’s Linnea Nordman, 7, placed sixth in Basic 2.

The figure skating club’s home rink is the Lakeshore Sports Centre on Airline Road in Muskegon.
