Fruitport (48-8) won that matchup, and hopes to score another win against East Grand Rapids (42-7) tonight when the two elite programs meet in the Class B state semifinals at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek.
That match begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the evening’s second Class B semifinal, featuring Marysville (49-9-4) and Tecumseh (54-3-1), which will follow around 7:15.
The winners meet in Saturday’s state championship match at 4 p.m.
On Thursday, Rockford advanced to the Class A state final with a convincing win over Temperance Bedford. The Rams will meet Lake Orion, which defeated Clarkston in four games, in Saturday’s Class A final.
In Class D action, Wyoming Tri-unity Christian dominated Deckerville to advance to the state finals against Battle Creek St. Philip.
Earlier today, the Class C semifinals feature Monroe St. Mary CC and Delton Kellogg at 2 p.m. and Charlevoix vs. Morley-Stanwood at 3:45.
Coach Nicole Bayle’s Trojans are the defending Class B state champions and hope to become the first repeat champs in Class B since Marysville won five straight titles from 2000-2004. Three of those wins came at the expense of Fruitport.
The Trojans have advanced to the state finals six times since 2001, winning state titles in 2005 and 2010.
