The Lakers finished with 154 points, which beat out runner-up Manistee by 20. The host Orioles were third with 120.

Spring Lake won eight of 10 events and head coach Penny Zacek said there were a few pleasant surprises among the victories.

“Trevor Billinghurst led off the 400 free relay and barely missed a state qualifying time. That was unexpected,” Zacek said. “We also had a very good 100 (individual medley) swim from freshmen Blake Henning.

Zacek also commended the performances of Mason Grogan, James Jensen, Will Parker, Jesse Ruter and Jared Knorr.

“I think we have a few more weapons then I was anticipating,” Zacek said. “Coach (Tom) Knight and I are excited to see what our season brings.”

Spring Lake competes in its first home meet on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against the co-op team from Reeths-Puffer and Mona Shores.
