Kingdom come up short

The Kalamazoo Kingdom club soccer team came up short in agonizing fashion in today's USL Super-Y League North American Championship.

The Kingdom and Ironbound SC were tied at 1-1 after regulation and overtime, then went to a shootout. Ten rounds of penalty kicks were needed to determine a winner, with Ironbound SC pulling out an 8-7 victory.

A trio of Grand Haven varsity soccer players are members of the Kingdom: Chad Buitenhuis, Matt Davis and Ryan Schoonover.
