“They beat everybody in the league last year except for us, and we beat them in overtime,” said Lakers’ coach Bill Core, whose team falls to 1-1 on the year. “They returned six of their top eight scorers, so we know they were going to be a tough team, and we knew this was going to be a tough game.”

The Lakers led by six points, 41-35, with about five minutes to play, only to see the Tigers finish the game on a 16-6 run. The big blow came from Brown, who buried a 3-pointer from the corner on an inbounds play to put his team on top late in the game.

The Lakers had a shot to tie the game with under 15 seconds to go, but couldn’t convert.

Spring Lake junior Austin Johnson had a huge game, finishing with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Michael Zietlow knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 10 points, while Logan Pellegrom scored six.

Taylor Fahlen had 16 for Grant, and Brown finished with 10 points.

“Grant played a very good game, and we played pretty good,” Core said. “It’ll be interesting to see how we respond. We don’t like to lose at all, let alone at home on Friday night.”

The Lakers are off until next Friday, when they play at Orchard View.
