SL girls edge defending league champs

Coach Rich Hyde's young Spring Lake team went toe-to-toe with defending Lakes Eight Conference champion Grant on Friday night, and it was the upstart Lakers who came out on top with a 35-30 win.

“This was big for us,” said Hyde, whose team is 3-0 on the year and 2-0 in league play. “The defending conference champs coming in, with all their experience, seven seniors back, we’re very excited. We showed a lot of composure.”

The Lakers led 16-13 at halftime, but came out of the intermission ice cold on offense, allowing Grant to go on a 6-0 run.
