His team put his worries to rest, opening Friday’s contest at Orchard View on a 17-1 run and coasting to a 46-28 victory over the host Cardinals.

“I was a little nervous for our first road game,” admitted Hyde, whose team is 4-0 overall and 3-0 in league play entering Christmas break. “We really answered the bell.”

The Cardinals relied almost exclusively on forward Teareya Hill, and she responded with a huge night, scoring 17 points despite missing five of her six free throws.

The Lakers countered with a pair of outstanding post players. Evie Lorimer scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Jessica Lewakowski led her team in scoring with a season-high 15.

Lewakowski typically does all the dirty work down low, from playing tough defense to going after rebounds. Hyde was happy to see her rewarded on the scoreboard on Friday.
