GH's Beebe receives national award

Grand Valley State's Aaron Beebe, a senior from Grand Haven, has been named the NCAA Division II national swimmer of the week by CollegeSwimming.com after setting seven pool records at the 2011 Calvin College Winter Invitational this past weekend.

He qualified for the D-II national meet with “A” marks in eight different events and was part of three relay teams that posted national qualifying times and one relay that reached a provisional “B” qualifying standard in the meet.

Beebe’s “A” marks included a time of 1 minute, 36.56 seconds in the 200-meter freestyle, 48.26 in the 100 butterfly, 1:45.97 in the 200 fly, 1:49.51 in the 200 individual medley, 3:54.09 in the 400 IM.

The former Buccaneer established new GVSU school records in the 200 free, 200 IM and 400 IM.

His time in the 400 IM shattered the school record by more than eight seconds. He also helped set another school record in the 200 medley relay (1:29.64).

Beebe now owns seven different Grand Valley State school records.
