JV/Freshman roundup: Grimes' late free throws help Bucs' JV top Big Reds

BOYS Junior Varsity Grand Haven scored a tight win over Muskegon on Thursday, thanks in part to a pair of late free throws in the closing moments by Connor Grimes. Grimes finished with six points and four steals for the Bucs (6-0, 2-0 O-K Red). Korey Searle had 11 points and three assists while Chad Mattson scored eight points. Adam Abraham had six rebounds.

Spring Lake suffered a 56-51 overtime loss to Ludington. Kyle Zietlow helped keep the Lakers in the game with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals. Charlie Warber added 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and five steals, while Ross Underberg scored seven points.

Junior Varisty
Grand Haven improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the O-K Red with a 51-45 win over Muskegon. Krysteena Davis finished with 15 points while Bailey Tebeau had 11 points and seven rebounds. Jami Hogeboom added six points and four assists, and Rachel Eikenberry pulled down four boards.

Grand Haven received 16 points and 11 rebounds from Amy Kober in a 32-22 win over Muskegon. Sawyer Overway added 11 points for the Bucs (6-1, 2-0 O-K Red).

Spring Lake scored a 40-25 win over Tri-Unity. Kelsee Zuidema had 13 points and six rebounds, while Emily VanWingen added seven points. Ayna Gordon pulled down 14 rebounds to go with five steals and four points.

Fruitport scored a convincing 42-13 win over Orchard View as the Trojans improve to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in league play. All 10 girls scored for coach Mike Marshall’s team. Francesca Cerniglia had eight points and 12 rebounds while Julie Rynberg had a solid game off the bench with six points.
