GH hockey handed 2nd loss of season

Despite holding a 42-17 advantage in shots, Grand Haven's varsity hockey team lost for just the second time this year, 2-1, at the hands of Portage Central.

The loss came in the opening round of the Stan Konrad Memorial Tournament at Lakeshore Ice Centre in Norton Shores.

Portage Central’s Zach Kinney and Dominic Renda scored second-period goals to give their team a 2-0 lead.

Asa Pellegrom scored, assisted by Jake Poel, to draw the Bucs within one in the third period.

Zach Kooi made 15 stops on the 17 shots he faced, while Tyler Gordon made 41 saves for the Mustangs.

Grand Haven will play East Kentwood in the consolation game today at 2 p.m., while Portage Central advances to face Mona Shores in the championship contest.
