Girls hoops roundup: Bucs' fastbreak buries Big Reds

After an impressive win last week over state-ranked Detroit King at the Motor City Roundball Classic, Grand Haven coach Katie Kowalczyk-Fulmer was worried about an emotional letdown from her squad Friday evening at Muskegon.

The Bucs eased her worries by making it look easy against the Big Reds.

Grand Haven senior Alex Law drained five 3-pointers — including three in the opening quarter — and was one of 12 Bucs players to score in their 74-52 win at Muskegon High School.

The victory improves Grand Haven’s record to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in O-K Red Conference play.

FRUITPORT WINS, BUT LOSES HAZEKAMP

The final score read 41-37 in favor of Fruitport Friday evening at Orchard View High School, but the Trojans suffered a painful loss off the court.

Senior point guard Lauren Hazekamp, the Trojans’ leading scorer and rebounder, was likely lost for the season in the first quarter with a broken foot.

“The game was costly for us,” said Fruitport coach Bob German. “She’s a team leader.”
