Eidson, Bucs storm Muskegon, bounce Big Reds

Grand Haven's varsity boys basketball team got off to a rough start at Muskegon on Friday, but the Buccaneers bounced back and scored their first O-K Red win of the year, edging the Big Reds, 55-50.

“We just settled down, started getting some stops,” said Bucs’ coach Steve Hewitt, whose team improves to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in league play. “They were getting way too many offensive rebound baskets in the first half. Once we settled down and got some stops, we were able to close the gap.”

The Bucs relied on the offense of senior Alex Eidson, who scored a game-high 25 points. He did a nice job of getting penetration, shrugging off contact and hitting pull-up jumpers.

Danny Cotter and Ty VanWieren each added seven points for Grand Haven, which clawed its way back into the lead late in the third quarter and never relinquished it.
