The Lakers’ Nick Zacek swam past a loaded field to win the 200-yard freestyle event in 1 minute, 45.38 seconds. His closest competition was Grand Haven’s Takayu Kobayaski, who was second at 1:49.40.
Zacek pulled away from a pair of Rockford swimmers to win the 100 butterfly in 53.13 seconds.
Lakers’ coach Penny Zacek was pleased with her team’s showing.
“We went to the meet being the only D-3 school with the rest D-1,” Zacek said. “We looked at this as an opportunity to swim and dive against some of the top programs in the area."
The host Rams of Rockford won the event with 630 points. East Kentwood was second with 388, followed by West Ottawa (359), Jenison (333), the Lakers (273) and the Buccaneers (232).
The Lakers host the Spring Lake Invitational on Saturday.
