Boys basketball: SL comes up short against Whitehall

Playing back-to-back nights is a challenge in itself, but it became even more difficult for Spring Lake's varsity boys basketball team following an emotionally draining three-point loss to league rival Ludington on Friday.

Spring Lake started out flat against visiting Whitehall on Saturday at Spring Lake High School and the Lakers could never recover, falling to the Vikings by a 54-51 score.

“We’re not here to make excuses but Friday night took a lot out of us, physically, emotionally and mentally,” said Spring Lake coach Bill Core. “We hadn’t focused a lot on Whitehall except for our morning shoot-around on Saturday. We put all of our eggs into the Ludington basket.”

Junior forward Austin Johnson led the Lakers with 17 points and he also grabbed eight rebounds.
