Basketball games a go despite snow day

Despite school cancelations at Spring Lake and Grand Haven due to several inches of snow that fell throughout the Tri-Cities overnight, area athletic events are expected to go on as scheduled this evening.

Lakes Eight Conference rivals Spring Lake and Fruitport will still do battle on the hardwood tonight, starting with the varsity girls game at 6 p.m. Classes at Spring Lake were cancelled today but were held at Fruitport.

Spring Lake Athletic Director Cavin Mohrhardt said the Lakers' home swimming and diving invitational on Saturday will also be held as scheduled, beginning at 9 a.m.

Western Michigan Christian's home basketball games against NorthPointe Christian will also be played tonight as scheduled.

At Grand Haven, athletic director Jack Provencal said tonight's athletic events would go on as scheduled, including the Bucs' varsity boys and girls basketball games at home against West Ottawa. Grand Haven's varsity hockey game at Grand Rapids Central will also be played.
