Smith, who had been averaging 19 points and 10 rebounds, transferred to Muskegon High School this week.

The Warriors, who were also playing without their only two seniors, raced out to a 11-5 first quarter lead and stretched it to 17-6 with five minutes left in the first half, before the Chargers narrowed WMC’s lead to 22-14 at intermission. Covenant took the lead at 33-30 at the end of the third quarter.

“I am so proud of how our guys played the first half,” said Western Michigan Christian coach Jim Goorman. “We were undermanned, with three guys out, and our boxing out of the first half was phenomenal. It was the one our best halves of the year.”

Collin Adams led WMC in scroing with 10 points while Henry DeKam added nine points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Robert Wilkinson added eight points for the Warriors.

Covenant scored 19 points in each of the last two quarters.

“Covenant moved a lot better the rest of the game,” coach Goorman said. “That was the real difference.”

Mike Warren finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots, helping Fruitport Calvary Christian pull out a 55-36 win over Heritage Christian.

The Eagles were only up two points late in the first half after surrendering 18 second-quarter points. Their defense improved after halftime, allowing just 15 points in the second half.

Mark Carlson scored 14 of his 16 points after halftime, giving the Eagles a more comfortable lead with a pair of 3-pointers.

Drew Maine had five assists and Patrick Asdell pulled down 13 rebounds for Fruitport Calvary Christian, which is now 8-1 overall and 7-1 in Alliance League play.
