The Buccaneers fell behind visiting East Kentwood, 19-6, and were never able to catch up, suffering a 58-49 loss to the Falcons.
“We got down 19-6, and they’re just too good to be paying from behind like that,” said Bucs’ coach Steve Hewitt, whose team is now 6-6 overall and 4-3 in O-K Red play. “We cut it to six in the second half, but we were still struggling, scrambling to get back in the game.”
Grand Haven couldn’t contain Kentwood’s explosive Jalen Carter, who scored 19 points. Tavon Robinson added 14 and Quaye Cobbs 13.
Alex Eidson led the Bucs with 17 points to go with three rebounds and three assists. Jeremy Lattig added 12 points and five boards, while Matt Kroll played well with seven points and three rebounds.
The Bucs host Muskegon on Friday.
Junior Varsity: Grand Haven fell to East Kentwood, 47-43, despite 12 points from Korey Searle. John Cahalan provided a lift off the bench with four points, while Marcus Tumblin added seven points and five rebounds for the Bucs (9-3, 5-3 O-K Red).
Freshmen: East Kentwood handed Grand Haven just its second loss of the season, 67-38. Noah Lein had 14 points and five rebound for the Bucs, while BJ Nahal had 12 points and Nic Holwerda added seven boards.
