SL Middle School swim has unbeaten season

Spring Lake's boys and girls middle school swimming and diving teams continued their recent stretch of excellence, as the Lakers completed an undefeated season at 4-0 and won their conference meet for a fifth-straight year.

The Lakers fielded six athletes at the state meet, held Saturday in Holt. The boys’ 400 freestyle relay team of Marshall Bailey, Grant Stille, Eric Schock and Keon Rick finished 16th overall. Sophie Kleinhecksel also finished 10th in the 50-yard freestyle. The top 16 finishers at the finals medaled.

Other top finishers for Spring Lake included an 18th-place showing by its 200 medley relay team (Bailey, Schock, Rick and Stille); Kleinhecksel placing 17th, Riley German 18th and Rick 24th in diving; Rick finishing 21st and Schock placing 25th in the 100 breaststroke; and Shelby Arends taking 30th in the 100 backstroke.

The team is coached by Nikki Teune and diving coach Michelle Allard.
