The Lakers trailed by just two points at halftime, but were outscored 22-9 in the third and eventually lost to host Ludington, 57-37.

“We came out of the gate very well in the first quarter, and we hung on hard in the second quarter, did a great job defensively, and were only down 22-20 at the half,” said Lakers’ coach Rich Hyde. “We thought we were sitting pretty well, and the girls were excited, but we missed a couple quick opportunities and they converted on a couple opportunities, and before we knew it, it was 30-20.”

Evie Lorimer, who has missed several games with a knee injury for Spring Lake, returned to the court and finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.

TROJANS PULL AWAY FROM OV

Fruitport used a big second quarter to ground the Cardinals of Orchard View, 50-34.

The host Trojans (10-6, 7-4 Lakes Eight) led by just two points, 8-6, after one quarter of play, then used a 16-4 advantage in the second to lead 24-10 at the half.
Orchard View (5-11, 3-8 Lakes Eight) closed to within 11 points in the third quarter, but Fruitport knocked down 8-of-13 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold the Cardinals at bay.

Toni Parker led the Trojans with 14 points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots. Amber Carmean added 10 points and eight rebounds, while Janelle Vest and Francesca Cerniglia each scored eight.
