JV, Freshmen roundup: Haven JV girls finish season at 19-1

BOYS Junior Varsity Grand Haven came up short against Jenison, losing 66-54. The Wildcats made 12-of-14 foul shots in the fourth quarter and were lights out from 3-point range, hitting 8-of-12 triple tries. Connor Grimes led the Bucs with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Isaak Newhouse added 13 points. Korey Searle scored nine points for the Bucs (15-4, 10-4 O-K Red).

Spring Lake topped Fremont, 63-50, with Nathan Batts contributing 13 points. Kyle Zietlow also had 13 points and added seven rebounds and three steals, while Ryan Nolan chipped in with nine points, six boards and three blocks for the Lakers (13-4, 10-2 Lakes Eight).

Freshmen

Grand Haven overpowered Jenison, 57-41, behind 12 points and five rebounds from Noah Lein. B.J. Nahal added 10 points and four assists, while Thompson McWaters also scored 10 points. Josh Snively added nine points and four rebounds, and Nick Alpher had four boards for the Bucs (15-4, 10-4 O-K Red).

The Lakers improved to 7-0 in conference play with a 42-25 win over Fremont. Ben Kramer led the way with 12 points; Hunter Moe had 10points; and Connor Foster finished with six rebounds.

GIRLS
Junior Varsity

Grand Haven wrapped up a 19-1 season with Thursday’s 44-27 win over Jenison. Amanda Merz scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds, and Krysteena Davis added 10 points and five steals for the Bucs. Jami Hogeboom finished with eight points, three steals and two blocks; Faith Platz grabbed six boards; and Emily Sexton had four points and three steals.

Spring Lake closed out a strong season with a 44-29 win at Fremont. The Lakers (16-3) received 16 points and six rebounds from Courtney Kyser; eight points and two boards from Karley Engelsman; and four points, two rebounds and three assists from Kelly Hoffius.
Fruitport trounced Newaygo in its final contest of the season, 53-30. Alexis Black had 11 points and six assists, while Caitlin Hughey finished with 13 points and six boards. Kelsey Alviar had a strong game off the bench for the Trojans (11-8).

WMC finished 14-6 on the season with a 34-24 win over Tri-Unity. Lindsey Johnson and Jessica Knoll each tossed in 11 points for the Lady Warriors while Anneliese DeKam corralled nine rebounds.  

Freshmen

Grand Haven wrapped up a 13-7 overall record with a 47-26 win against Jenison on Thursday. Shayna Thomas led the Bucs with 10 points, Sawyer Overway added nine and Mackenzie Burkhardt totaled eight. The Bucs finished 7-5 in the O-K Red Conference.

The Lakers finished their season at 12-2 overall and 3-0 in league play with a 48-33 win over Fremont. Emily VanWingen led the way with 12 points and five rebounds. Kelsey Zuidema added 11 points and pulled down 13 boards, while Katie Slajus finished with seven points.
