Klaassen, Zelenka score hat tricks in Bucs' pre-regional rout

Jordan Klaassen scored a hat trick, with Patrick Ferris assisting on all three of his goals, leading the Buccaneers' varsity hockey team to an 8-2 win over Grand Rapids West Catholic in the opening round of Division 2 pre-regional action on Monday.

The Buccaneers held a 40-13 advantage in shots on goal in the victory, which sets up a meeting with conference rival Mona Shores on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at LC Walker Arena in Muskegon.

Tom Zelenka also recorded a hat trick for the Bucs, who are now 17-6-2 on the year. James Dyksterhouse opened the scoring for Grand Haven, while Jake Steggles also lit the lamp.

Asa Pellegrom, Rowan Daniels, Will Verduin, Klaassen, Zach Thomas, Ian Hibbard, Nathan Schmidt, Chris Corgan and Steggles each had at least one assist for Grand Haven.

Zach Kooi and Mark Nalley shared time in goal for the Bucs.
