It turns out, all 13 got into the scorebook as the Buccaneers (20-1) trashed the Rockets (2-19), 58-21, in the opening round of the state tournament.

Grand Haven advances to face Muskegon in the district semifinals on Wednesday at Mona Shores.

“Their record was 2-18, and we wanted to come out and play hard, put them away early,” said Buccaneer senior Megan Newhouse, who came off the bench to grab a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Bucs certainly put the Rockets away early, racing to an 18-0 lead before Reeths-Puffer’s Kayla Melton scored with two seconds remaining in the opening quarter.

The Bucs’ first three baskets were 3-pointers, including two by Alex Law and another by Shar’Rae Davis.

Jordan Keefe added a long jumper to make it 11-0, then center Abby Cole was knocked hard to the ground. She bounced back up and sank one-of-two free throws for a 12-0 lead.

Kaeding Skelton scored on a short jumper, then Hannah Wilkerson scored back-to-back buckets for the Bucs’ 18-0 lead.

Law finished with a game-high 12 points for the Bucs. She was the only Grand Haven player in double-figures.

Cole scored seven points while Courtney Springer and Newhouse each added five points.
