“Size matters not,” Yoda told Luke Skywalker. “Look at me. Judge me by my size do you? Hmm?”

If you judge Oakridge by its size — or lack thereof — you’d be making a very big mistake.

Despite playing three players who barely reach the 5-foot mark, the Eagles used a frenzied defense and some timely shooting to overwhelm host Fruitport, 54-35, in the semifinal round of the Class B district tournament.

The Eagles advance to Friday’s district title game, where they’ll meet Muskegon Heights, a 37-33 winner over Orchard View in Wednesday’s other semifinal game.

Oakridge’s trio of lightening-quick guards — sophomore Morgan Giddings, junior Sam Eely and Ashley Weaver —wreaked havoc on Fruitport’s ball handlers, especially during the third quarter, when the Eagles outscored the Trojans, 12-4, to take control of the game.
