Fast start carries GH boys to district title game

Grand Haven's varsity boys basketball team raced out to a 19-4 first-quarter lead and held on for a 56-41 victory over Mona Shores in Wednes-day's Class A district semifinal contest at Cedar Springs High School.

The Bucs (12-10) advance to Friday’s district title game against Muskegon. The Big Reds (11-10) crushed Reeths-Puffer on Wednes-day, 80-48.

Friday’s contest will take place at 7 p.m. at Cedar Springs.

Senior forward Jeremy Lattig had a big game for the Bucs on Wednesday as he scored a game-high 16 points. Lattig was perfect from the free throw line as he sank all eight of his attempts.

Ty VanWieren also had a big game for Grand Haven with 11 points. Alex Eidson scored eight while Sean Steffel and Matt Kroll each added six.

No Mona Shores player managed to reach double figures. Andre Parker led the Sailors (5-16) with nine points, while Ricky Matthews scored eight and Torin Carlson added seven.
