Zacek turned in the top qualifying times in a pair of events — the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly — at Friday’s preliminary round of the Division 3 state meet at Oakland University.

In addition, the Lakers’ Erik Lukkari sits in sixth place in the diving competition following the Friday’s prelims, and Andrew Hintz qualified second in the 100 backstroke.

The top eight qualifying times swim for the state title in today’s finals while those who qualify ninth through 16 swim in today’s consolation heat.

Hintz came up just short of qualifying for today’s finals in the 100 freestyle, placing 19th in 50.29 seconds.

Lukkari has 262.05 points after Friday’s diving prelims.

At the Division 1 state meet at Eastern Michigan University, Grand Haven’s Taku Kobayashi had a strong showing. He qualified third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.89 seconds, and was fourth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:54.36.

The Bucs’ Aaron Venema qualified sixth in the 500 freestyle prelims with a time of 4:40.99. Venema also swam in the 200 freestyle, qualifying 12th with a time of 1:43.97.
