Now, the Buccaneers are headed to a regional final.
Alex Eidson scored 15 points, Jeremy Lattig had 13 and Sean Steffel added 11 as Grand Haven knocked off Petoskey, 57-51, Monday in a Class A regional semifinal at Traverse City Central High School.
The win came three nights after Eidson’s free throws with 2.1 seconds remaining gave the Bucs a win over Muskegon in a district championship game.
“It’s awesome,” Eidson said. “These are games you play for. Close ones.”
Grand Haven (14-10) advances to the regional final against either Hudsonville or Rockford. Those teams will play their regional semifinal tonight after it was postponed because of a tornado watch on Monday.
Petoskey finishes its season at 22-2. The Northmen led 33-27 at halftime, but Grand Haven erased that deficit with a quick 6-0 run to open the third quarter.
The first four of those points came on Ty VanWieren putbacks, and the spurt swung momentum in Grand Haven’s favor.
“Those two offensive rebounds they got and converted early in the second half makes the difference between us going up 10 and being tied,” Petoskey coach Dennis Starkey said. “That obviously was the big momentum shift.”
Sam Baumgartner and Joe Robbins scored 15 points each to lead Petoskey, while Zak Lewis added 11.
The Bucs outscored Petoskey, 15-5, in the third quarter, and led 42-38 entering the fourth.
