Michigan Nationals claim district hockey title

The 95/96 Michigan Nationals youth hockey team went 3-0 in its district tournament, held at The Edge Ice Arena last month.

The Michigan Nationals scored a 9-0 victory over the Northside Stars, then beat the Jackson Generals 3-1 and 3-0 to capture the District 6 title.

The win advanced the team to the state tournament, where its season came to an end.

The Michigan Nationals call The Edge home, although most of their games are played in the Detroit area. The team is made up of 15- and 16-year-old boys from Spring Lake, Grand Haven, Muskegon and the Grand Rapids area.

Team members include Patrick Nicholson, Bryce Verpoort, Alec Sturr, Cory Bussing, Steve Fraser, Josh Smith, Brandon Perry, Nick Hayes, Bodhi Nicosia, Nate Rozegnal, Hayden Modaff, Sam Forstner, Michael VanderVeen, Paul Broadbent and Devin Rosema.
