Baseball Roundup: Bucs score first win

Danny Cotter pitched four innings of one-run baseball, helping Grand Haven score its first victory of the season, 7-5 over Zeeland East.

Matt Kroll, Doug Zelenka and Will VerDuin each had two hits for the Bucs, while Ty VanWieren earned the save, going 1 2/3 innings without allowing a hit.

The Buccaneers finished with 10 hits on the day and took advantage of four Zeeland East errors.

Spring Lake’s varsity baseball team committed 11 errors in a 13-4 loss to Coopersville.

The Broncos had just five hits on the night.

“This is not the type of baseball these kids want to play, and I’m confident our game will improve,” said Lakers’ coach Brian Sabo.

Michael Zietlow, Michael Dillingham and Codey Houts each had singles and Noah Ellingboe drilled a double for the Lakers.

Spring Lake hosts Reeths-Puffer on Thursday, then opens league play with a home twin bill against Grant on Friday.
