Prep Roundup: GH golf opens with pair of wins

Grand Haven's varsity boys golf team opened its season with a pair of O-K Red Conference victories on Tuesday.

The Buccaneers shot a 168, holding on to defeat visitors from East Kentwood (173) and West Ottawa (170) at Grand Haven Golf Club.

Freshman Matt Nalley fired a one-over-par round of 37 in his first career match with the Bucs.

Mark Nalley added a 40 for the Bucs. Patrick Ferris shot a 44, and Kevin LaCroix added a 47.

GH SOFTBALL SWEEPS WMC

Grand Haven swept both ends of a softball doubleheader with Western Michigan Christian on Tuesday.

The host Buccaneers got off to a fast start in the opening game and led 6-0 before holding on late for a 6-5 victory.

In the secod game, Grand Haven scored a 7-0 victory, with Abby Styck throwing a shutout for the Buccaneers.

BUCS’ WATER POLO TEAM LOSES

Zeeland scored just 60 seconds into Tuesday’s contest and never looked back, scoring a 9-1 win over Grand Haven in girls water polo action.

Alyssa Land scored Grand Haven's lone goal.
Zeeland closed out the second half with four consecutive goals.

Stephanie Hoover made five saves in goal for Grand Haven while Hannah Heemstra made five stops in goal for Zeeland.
