GH grad Thomas named Athlete of the Year at Lewis & Clark

PORTLAND, Ore. - Grand Haven native Emily Thomas was named the female Athlete of the Year at Lewis & Clark University on Tuesday.

Thomas, a junior, received the Lois Smithwick Athlete of the Year Award, which she shared with Kristina Williams, who plays basketball at Lewis & Clark.

Thomas also received the Mary Hunter Multi-Sport Athlete of the Year for her performances on the Lewis & Clark cross country and track and field teams.

Thomas has had a fantastic running career at Lewis & Clark. This spring, she won her second career Northwest Conference championship as she took first place in the 5,000-meter run. Her time of 18 minutes, 15.59 seconds was nearly 15 seconds faster than her nearest competitor.

Thomas also won the league title in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 36:38.08.
