GH's DeWitt breaks own school record in 300 hurdles at O-K Red track meet

Grand Haven senior James DeWitt broke his own school record in winning the 300-meter hurdles during Friday's O-K Red Conference track and field meet, hosted by West Ottawa.

DeWitt, who also won the 110 hurdles, lowered his school record with a time of 38.81, nearly a second faster than his previous best.

Ryan Duff won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 9 minutes, 40.15 seconds, while Steve Heyboer took second in the pole vault.

The Bucs’ Schalk Vanniekerk, the school record holder in the 800 run, had to sit out the meet with strep throat.

TWO CHAMPS FOR GH GIRLS

Grand Haven’s Grace Kendra and Amy Kober each won individual O-K Red Conference championships at Friday’s league meet, held at West Ottawa.

Kendra won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 1 ¾ inches.

Kober was a surprise winner in the high jump as she cleared the bar at 4-11.
