GH soccer heating up

After a sluggish stretch that saw them lose six times in nine games, the Grand Haven varsity girls soccer team looks to have righted the ship.

After storming back to beat Jenison in the second round of the O-K Red Conference tournament on Monday, the Buccaneers thumped West Ottawa on Wednesday, 5-2.

Courtney Springer scored twice for the Buccaneers, while Claire Borchers, Taylor DeWitt and Brook Spruit added single goals.

“It was a good game,” coach Cor Damhuis said. “It was hot, but it was hot for both teams.

Grand Haven will host Jenison in the opening round of the Division 1 district tournament on Tuesday.

Junior Varsity: The Buccaneers finished their season at 14-4 with a 1-0 win over West Ottawa. Sawyer Overway scored for the Bucs, and Veronica Booth recorded the shutout in goal.

Freshmen: Grand Haven scored a 2-0 win at West Ottawa. Hailey Schneider scored both goals for the Bucs, while Taylor Wexall, Madison Innes, Katie Fojtik and Allison Berger played well defensively.
