SLYC sailors excel at Championship Regatta

Several sailors from the Spring Lake Yacht Club performed admirably at the 83rd annual Western Michigan Yachting Association's Championship Regatta, held Wednesday through Saturday at the Muskegon Yacht Club.

Spring Lake sailors dominated in several divisions, including the Butterfly Open, where they finished 1-2-3, led by Adam Hohmeyer. Hohmeyer, who is also an accomplished snowboarder, took first-place in all four races in the division. Following him in the standings were SLYC’s Angelo Riolo in second, and Julie Lucas in third.

Another local sailor who took first place in their respective division was Jamie Kimball, who came out on top of the 35-boat MC Division. SLYC’s Brent Hatton also placed third in the division.

In the Butterfly Junior Division, SLYC’s Frank Reeg took runner-up honors, followed by Olivia Windemuller in third, and Mason Wolters in fourth.

Wolters was also third in the Laser Radial Division, while Bruce Hansen was second in Laser Standard.

In the 12-boat C Scows Division, Chad Hough took second-place honors.

The Western Michigan Yachting Association has a total of 20 member clubs.
