The Bucs are participating in special contests each of the next four weeks, starting with Friday’s game at Lowell, during which the Red Arrows will hold their Pink Arrow Pride game.
Next week, the Bucs return home to Gene Rothi Field, where they’ll host Mona Shores for their Bucs Pride purple game.
On Sept. 21, Grand Haven will play in the Wounded Warrior Project game at Grandville. On Sept. 28, the Bucs host East Kentwood for Homecoming.
“There are going to be 10,000 people at the game for the Pink Arrow project, and we’re honored to be in the game,” said Buccaneers’ coach Mile Farley. “It’s a great opportunity for us to play in the Pink Arrow Project game. But we’ve got to be able to concentrate on us, get better week to week. We’ve got to be able to do the little things to try to win a football game.”
The Bucs will wear their white away uniforms at Lowell on Friday, then will don special purple jerseys for the Bucs Pride game next week.
Grand Haven fans are also urged to wear purple to the Bucs Pride game. Bucs’ Pride shirts are now available for purchase at the Bucs Pride store, located at the Community Room near the entrance to Gene Rothi Stadium. The store is open Monday through Friday from 1-5 p.m., and on evenings where home athletic events are taking place, the store often remains open later.
Buccaneers’ fans are also urged to wear their Bucs Pride shirts to Lowell on Friday.
Lowell’s Pink Arrow Pride began in 2008 as the brainchild of head football coach Noel Dean. That year, Lowell raised $93,000 for various cancer charities. The following year, Pink Arrow Pride 2009 raised $116,000.
Grand Haven decided to piggyback off Lowell’s efforts and began the Bucs Pride game in 2010. That first year, more than $13,000 was raised for cancer research and support.
New this year is the Purple Poster Project, which will be sold to support Bucs Pride. Ever school in the Grand Haven Area Public Schools were part of the project. Each school was assigned a letter to spell out “Bucs Pride!” and was photographed from the air.
Posters are being sold for $10 and are available at the Bucs Pride store.
