The Lakers romped over the host Fruitport Trojans, 7-1, with Spring Lake's lone loss coming with a replacement player Blake Henning at No. 2 singles. Henning was filling in for Stuart Velarde, who missed the match due to a prior commitment. Fruitport senior Kelly Peterson took advantage, winning 6-1, 6-0.
It was the lone bright spot for the Trojans, as the Lakers romped in nearly every other flight, with six flights winning in straight sets. Each of Spring Lake's doubles teams won by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores.
“The kids played pretty good,” said Spring Lake coach Charlie Bassett, whose squad is 5-2 overall. “It was a good outing for us.”
