Area athletes advance in Punt, Pass and Kick

The local NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition was held on Sept. 9 at Lakeshore Middle School, with several area youngsters advancing to compete at the regional level.

Gerrit Lyyski, Michael MacDonald, Maxwell Voet, James Mitchell, Andrew Dalman, Mercedes Mitchel and Jaden TenBroek won their respective age divisions and will take part in the regional competition on Oct. 14 at West Ottawa.

There, they have a chance to qualify for the team championship competition, to be held at Ford Field on Dec. 2, in conjunction with the Detroit Lions’ home game against the Indianapolis Colts.

The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick national championship will take place at an NFL playoff game in January of 2013. 

Lyyski, of Spring Lake, was the Boys’ 6-7 winner with a total score of 120 feet, 0 inches. 

MacDonald, of West Ottawa, won the Boys’ 8-9 age group at 133-8, while Voet, of Holland, was the Boys’ 10-11 winner at 200-8. Grand Haven’s James Mitchell won the Boys 12-13 division at 240-8, and Dalman, also of Grand Haven, won the Boys’ 14-15 age group at 241-9. 

Mercedes Mitchell of Grand Haven won the Girls’ 8-9 division at 59-5, while TenBroek, also of Grand Haven, won the Girls’ 10-11 age group at 74-6. 

The location NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition is put on by Pulver Chiropractic and the North Ottawa Recreation Authority.
