“Hailey had a 43 last week, then a 53 the other day, and I think that got her mad, and she came back and just played really solid golf, a lot of pars,” said Bucs’ coach Roger Glass. “I’m so happy for her. She was really excited about it.”

Adding to the Bucs’ season-best score were Megan Hendrickson and Martha Ramsey, both of whom shot a 48, along with Kira Glass, who shot a season-best 49.

“The girls are realizing that if they focus, they can be pretty good,” Glass said.

The Buccaneers close out their dual meet season at Hudsonville on Tuesday.

OLSZEWSKI LEADS LAKERS

Whitehall couldn’t field five scores against Spring Lake on Thursday, allowing the Lakers to essentially try to beat their own season-best scores.

The Lakers had a strong, balanced grouping with Ginnie Olszewski leading the way with a 47. Kayla Krueger and Karissa Raschke each added a 48 and freshman Emma Conroy totaled a 49.

“The girls weren’t satisfied with their scores, which I like to see,” said head coach George Bitner. “It’s a nice tight grouping of scores, but we’d like to see it lower.”

The Vikings had one player out sick and another failed to finish her round due to what Bitner called, “an emotional breakdown.”

Spring Lake’s junior varsity players were also in action, as they competed at the Kenowa Hills JV Invitational.

Caledonia won the event with a 198, while Spring Lake tied Greenville for fifth-place overall with a 216.

Erika Kuglar led the Lakers with a 52, Maddie Johnson shot a 53, McKenzie Gravelyn carded a 54, and Rachel Rantanen finished with a 57.
