TROJANS FALL TO ROCKETS
Fruitport suffered a 2-1 loss to Reeths-Puffer on Monday.
The Trojans (8-6-2) got on the scoreboard first when Ryan Craker scored off an assist from Taylor McLaughlin.
The Rockets answered with a pair of second-half goals, scored by Drake Yarian and Cody Loss.
Loghan Stong made eight saves for Fruitport, which was outshot on the night, 11-4.
“The Rockets played great and fast the entire game,” said Fruitport coach Greg Kobylak. “The Trojans played good but are struggling to get over the ump and get to the point where we start winning close games against top teams.
“We will keep working to find the solution and the schedule keeps giving us opportunities.”
Fruitport gets its next chance against a top team on Wednesday, when they meet, state-ranked Orchard View in the semifinal round of the Lakes Eight Conference tournament.
The Cardinals defeated the Trojans earlier this year.
