Conference title run ends at 10 for SL tennis

Ludington's varsity boys tennis team edged Spring Lake at Saturday's Coastal Conference Meet, ending the Lakers' run of league titles at 10.

The host Orioles finished with 48 points, while the Lakers were second with 43.

Ludington also beat Spring Lake head-to-head earlier this fall.

The Lakers won three flight championships at Saturday’s event, including No. 1 singles, where Ryan Fedewa went unbeaten. He defeated Ludington’s Jake Perez in the finals, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.

The Lakers’ Kelly Peterson reached the finals at No. 2 singles, but lost to the Orioles’ Spencer Knudsen, 6-0, 6-1.

At third singles, Spring Lake’s Eric Johnson won his first match, but lost is second to North Muskegon’s Brock Dobb, 6-4, 7-5.

At fourth singles, the Lakers’ Craig Pratt also won his opening match but lost his second, coming up short to Reese McCamant of North Muskegon, 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles play, the Lakers’ No. 1 duo of Mitch Davis and Kasey Panyard won their first match, but lost their second to Ludington, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

Brenden Peel and Josh Cole went unbeaten at second singles, winning 6-3, 6-4 over Ludington in the finals.

Patrick Wang and Trevor Zenas were also unbeaten on the day, upsetting the top seeded team from Ludington in the finals, 6-4, 6-3.

At fourth doubles, the Lakers’ Jonah Yoshonis and Griffin Wagasky reached the finals before losing to Ludington, 6-3, 6-0.

The Lakers now turn their attention to Thursday’s Division 3 regional meet, which will be held at Spring Lake.
