Volleyball: Lakers’ district dreams dashed

Spring Lake's run toward a volleyball district championship came to an abrupt end at the hands of state-ranked Whitehall on Saturday.

The Vikings scored a sweep of the host Lakers, winning 25-18, 25-11, 25-22. 

The Lakers once again relied on a sophomore to carry them offensively as Kelsee Zuidema finished with 11 kills to go with 10 digs. 

However, the Lakers weren’t able to handle the Vikings’ strong service game, and as a result, their passing suffered. Spring Lake had a difficult time setting middle hitter Lydia Suchecki, who managed four kills to go with five points and an ace.

Courtney Kyser had five digs, six points and two aces, while Brooke TenBrink was strain goon defense with 16 digs, and also served tough with eight points an an ace.

Emily Blahnik had 21 assists from her setter position, and also added nine digs.

Padley Gallagher had 10 digs.
