Many of the circumstances surroundings Saturday night’s NCAA National Quarterfinal soccer match felt familiar.

Just 363 days after the Thunder came back to defeat Washington (Mo.) University, 4-2, at Joe Bean Stadium and advance to the National Semifinals, Wheaton and Wash. U. met again, this time at Francis Field in St. Louis.

The final result was very familiar as the Thunder defeated the Bears by a score of 3-1 to advance to the National Semifinals for the second consecutive year.

“Our defense really stepped up big for us tonight,” said Wheaton coach Felske.  “Jen Lee had a tremendous game for us, Alexa Sharkey and Laura Karsten were solid and Amanda Brait did a great job keeping everyone together in the back.”

With the victory, Wheaton advances to their seventh Final Four in program history. They will be traveling to San Antonio, Texas.

Western Michigan Christian graduates and Grand Haven residents Laura and Rachel Karsten are key members of the Thunder this fall.
