WMC girls even record with win over Kelloggsville

WMC boys blow late lead, fall to Rockets

Host Western Michigan Christian evened its season record at 2-2 Friday night with a 62-25 girls basketball win over Kelloggsville.

The Lady Warriors led 14-9 at the first stop, 33-15 at intermission and 52-21 going into the final period.

Rachel Bruinsma poured in 20 points while Vanessa Eekhoff had a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Julie Merz had four assists and Cassidy Kraker and Jessica Knoll chipped in with seven and five points respectively.

Junior Varsity: WMC lost, 35-23. Amber Sandin had eight points while Kristina Veurink and Melanie Weesies tossed in seven and five respectively.

BOYS BLOW LATE LEAD

Western Michigan Christian’s varsity boys basketball team took the lead going into the final quarter Friday night before falling to host Kelloggsville, 70-57.

The Warriors trailed 17-13 at the first stop and 35-23 at intermission, but grabbed a 42-41 lead at the end of three quarters.

Bernard Smith and Henry DeKam led WMC with 20 and 14 points, respectively.

Junior Varsity: WMC won, 51-25. Freshman James Godwin poured in 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Tully Groenendyk had nine points and five steals.Derrick  Holt and Jared Varnado each had five steals and Kyle Kingma grabbed eight rebounds.

Freshmen: WMC lost, 57-31. Michael Merz scored eight points while William Dukes and Demonta Bartee each tossed in six.
