Fruitport boys, girls fall at Fremont

Warren erupts for 35 points for Calvary Christian

Fruitport hung close with Fremont for two quarters, but the host Packers pulled away in the second half for a 41-31 girls basketball victory over the Trojans.

The teams were deadlocked at 21-all at halftime.

The Packers made 11 free throws to the Trojans’ 2, and also outrebounded Fruitport by a 43-29 margin.

Debbie Pekel led the Trojans (1-3, 0-1 Lakes Eight Conference) with nine points to go with eight steals and four assists.

Francesca Cerniglia chipped in with eight rebounds.

Marissa Spicherman scored 13 for the Packers (2-2).

TROJANS' BOYS CAN'T HOLD OFF PACKERS

Fremont’s Mike MacLean poured in 21 points as the Packers held off the visiting Trojans, 63-53.

Fremont used a 23-13 scoring advantage in the third quarter to create some separation after leading by just a point, 19-18, at halftime.

Tyler Fehler poured in 18 points for the Trojans, who are now 1-1 overall and 0-1 in Lakes Eight play. Aaron Veihl chipped in with 16 points, while Luke German scored six.   

WARREN PACES CALVARY CHRISTIAN

Mike Warren scored 35 points, including 25 in the first half, as Fruitport Calvary Christian raced to a 70-54 win over Kalamazoo Heritage Christian on Friday evening.

Warren also had 12 rebounds while going 15-of-20 from the free throw line.

Mark Carlson had 16 points, five steals and six assists for the Eagles, who are now 1-1 overall and 1-0 in Alliance League play.l Drew Maine finished with sevel steals and six assists.

Colin O’Day scored 25 for Heritage Christian.
